about

The track is a wild dark retro dance, synthwave ride, through the streets and clubs of 80s LA. Inspired by the still unsolved ‘Four On The Floor’ murders of 1981 that happened at 8763 Wonderland Avenue in Laurel Canyon.

It’s about a life led in the fast lane, the death of the Peace and Love movement and the birth of the disco era. An event that marked the end of the 70s and the beginning of the 80s, about new dreams and new drugs and the mayhem and destruction that was to follow them.

lyrics

3AM in the canyon
1st of July 1981
8763 Wonderland Avenue
Unidentified men

Been drivin’ boulevards in fast cars
Shooting movie scenes like James Dean
Doing bathroom lines with bad boys
Rollin’ reefer on their silver screen

I scratched up tracks on dance floors
Spun disco balls in mirrored halls
Jazzed up funk Thelonius Monk
Rode shotgun through the shopping mall

Oh where did we go wrong
Our hearts were once so strong

Come drive with me
At the speed of sound
Come fly with me
Cause we’re leaving ground
The dance floor dreams
Your star struck plans

Livin up sunset to sunrise
Banking big cash under red skies
A listers centre stage,
He’s twice her size
And half her age

Hell raiser, self loather
Helter skelter smack head
Devil on the dance floor
Waiting to come back again

Come drive with me
At the speed of sound
Come fly with me
Cause we’re leaving ground
The dance floor dreams
Your star struck plans
3AM in the canyon
1st of July 1981
8763 Wonderland Avenue
Unidentified men

Those boogie nights
